The Video Platform Provides Users Control to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to reduce the quantity of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company announced that it now features in excess of 1 bn content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is being tested over the coming weeks before a full-scale rollout. This development comes amid a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by new video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that nearly 10% of the quickest rising content creators on another major platform only show content made by AI. A large amount of this material is classified as “AI slop”, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is typically illogical or bizarre.

Based on user feedback that many people like content made with AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to science explainers, and we aim to offer the community the power to see more or less of that, depending on their own choices,” commented a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

The platform disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its app tagged as made with AI. In total, more than 100 million pieces of content are submitted to the app daily, making AI content a relatively small portion of its overall inventory.

User Control Features

Members will be capable of reduce or increase the amount of AI content they watch by accessing the content preference setting in the application and choosing “AI-generated content”. Further subjects that currently be controlled under the tool encompass current affairs, clothing, beauty, and movement.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s policies mandate content makers to tag “realistic” AI-generated content, and it prohibits harmful AI impersonations of public figures or crisis events. Any realistic AI video that is not labeled can be taken down under its user guidelines.

In addition, the platform will now add an “AI-made” tag to content created with its own AI tools, or detected by an cross-platform project for recognizing artificial media. This measure is aimed to stop users from trying to evade the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is also establishing a two million dollar awareness program for specialists and institutions to create educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will assist educational bodies dedicated to teaching programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

TikTok has defended its moderation strategy, following controversy over proposals to make redundant hundreds of review team members in the United Kingdom. TikTok is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its trust and safety department in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists expressing worry that people are being substituted by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead clarified that people-led review would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by filtering out the most harmful content ahead of it has to be seen by people. The company stated a notable drop in shocking and graphic content seen by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to intervention by its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to combine people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we additionally believe it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of dangerous material as quickly as possible, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is making a difference process content quickly.”
