Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a final set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
