Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
